Image credit: CERN.</span></p> <p><b>Six years after its first definition in 2006, the European strategy for particle physics was updated so as to take into account the progress made so far and the evolution of theglobal particle physics landscape.</b></p> <p>The <a href="http://council.web.cern.ch/council/en/EuropeanStrategy/esc-e-106.pdf" target="_blank">Strategy Statement paper</a>, produced by the <a href="http://europeanstrategygroup.web.cern.ch/europeanstrategygroup/ESG/welcome.html" target="_blank">European Strategy Group</a> (ESG) assisted by an ad-hoc <a href="http://europeanstrategygroup.web.cern.ch/europeanstrategygroup/ESPG/Welcome.html" target="_blank">Preparatory Group</a>, was approved on 30 May 2013 by the <a href="http://council.web.cern.ch/council/en/Welcome.html" target="_blank">CERN Council</a> in a special meeting hosted by the European Commission in Brussels.
